Oh wow!!! Thank you for shedding some light on my problem!! I have been on round after round of high dose vitamin D (50,000 IU/week) and my D levels never get any higher – in fact, after 16 weeks of consecutive high oral vitamin D therapy, my vitamin D level dropped from 29 to 24. The interesting thing is, during the first 8 weeks, I took 50,000 IU of vitamin D2 per week and my level did not change one bit. Immediately after the first eight weeks, my doctor ordered another eight weeks of high dose D therapy, but that time she gave me vitamin D3 instead (at my urging). It was during the 2nd eight week round of vitamin D using D3 that my vitamin D labs dropped by 5 points. This makes no sense, especially when D3 is better that D2.
After this abnormal result, my doctor sent me in for upper GI testing. They did an upper GI and found "nothing wrong" (no celiac, no ulcers, etc.). However, they did find that I have stomach inflammation with "prominent eosinophils" (which I don't understand). I assumed the stomach inflammation was the reason I couldn't absorb vitamin D. My doctor said "I don't think your stomach inflammation is causing it – I have no idea why you can't absorb vitamin D". He thinks maybe the inflammation has to do with possible unidentified food allergies. Sure wish I lived in Virginia so I could go to Dr. Berg!!!! All the great DC's live so far away from me. 🙁
I have an adrenal body type, and I had severe Vitamin D deficiency. So I believe you!
